Stunning kitchen trends for spring and beyond

Sitting at the very heart of our home, the kitchen is both visually and physically the hub of our family life. So, if you’re looking for a statement that reflects your personality and sums up the way you live your life, what better way to do this than through your kitchen design?

Here, we take a look at what’s hot in the world of kitchen design trends this season, what themes will start to feature more prominently and how to use these in a way that will stand the test of time. With the fashion for extensions to create open-plan living areas, our kitchens now occupy more space than ever before. So, we’ll start to see the kitchen styles and themes resonate through the rest of the house for a coherent look.

Pop of colour!

The bold use of colour continues to feature in the latest designs. Using a bright and vibrant colour to accentuate a zone or feature is a great way to demonstrate your personality and brighten a dull kitchen. Brightly coloured splash-backs and individual units create a contemporary look which you can repeat in furnishings or across the rest of the house. On-trend colours include purple, yellow and azure. Contrasting colours can also create interesting clashes which might just surprise you!

The industrial look

Our taste for the clean lines and simplicity of the industrial look hasn’t abated. This is an excellent way to combine style with purpose, to create a functional but attractive space. The key to this look is the use of metal and rustic wood as well as textured finishes such as brickwork or concrete.

The power of gold

Glamour is the name of the game with this trend, with the use of eye-catching metallic finishes to create a sense of opulence and luxury. It’s also a quick and easy way to update your design. Gold and copper on tiles, lighting, taps, shelf brackets and handles add an accent of colour to neutral schemes.

Black

If you’re looking for a redesign – have you considered adopting a black colour scheme? This is a bold choice but has an amazing effect, regardless of the size of your kitchen. Black lacquered units add a sense of drama and structure as well as providing a lustre from the glossy surfaces. A matt finish can be surprisingly soft whilst still creating an impact. Using black and white together in graphic patterns creates a stunning monochrome theme but remember to give one colour more prominence over the other to avoid a lack of visual focus. For a tentative step into this scheme use black accessories against a white kitchen.
